Swami Rama Cancer Hospital & Research Institute is functional under Government Medical College, Haldwani as a State of Art Cancer Centre with the aim of serving the people of Uttarakhand. By the Govt. of Uttarakhand Notification No. 487 /XXVIII(1)/2010-08(3)/2009 dated April 30, 2010, Government Medical College, Haldwani is working under the Department of Medical Education, Govt. of Uttarakhand from May 1, 2010.
Inspired by the vision of Swami Rama, a renowned spiritual leader with medical background, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttaranchal Pt. N. D. Tiwari ji took initiative for establishing a comprehensive cancer care facility in Uttarakhand. The Hospital is being commissioned to control and treat the fast spreading deadly disease of Cancer.The foundation stone of Swami Rama Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Haldwani was laid by Honbl’e Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pt. N. D. Tiwari ji on Sunday, April 30, 2006.
On Feb 22, 2010 The Honbl’e Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” inaugurated the Swami Rama Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Haldwani.
The Mission of this Institute is to provide modern and cost effective Cancer detection and treatment facility to the people of Uttarakhand and other adjoining areas.
Our aim is to create a Cancer free society by implementing modern health programs; providing education & awareness regarding cancer prevention and early detection and treatment of cancer.
With changing lifestyle of people, cancer is emerging as a major health problem in India as well as in Uttarakhand. 10% people of Uttarakhand die due to cancer. Every year approximately 6000 new cases of cancer are detected in Uttarakhand.
